I've been thinking alot about this parable in the scriptures. There was some racism in that day and the people who Jesus was teaching this parable to knew of this people known as the Samaritans, who they universally looked down upon. It touches my heart that Jesus chose the Samaritan as the man who stopped to help the person who had fallen along side the road, when others, such as a Priest, passed by. The compassion showed by the Samaritan is humbling to me. It makes me want to be a better person. It makes me want to be a "good Samaritan". He even went as far to take the injured man to an inn and pay the innkeeper to take care of him for several days until he was better. He truly went the extra mile. And he did so for a person who would normally look down upon him.
This has application today. For many today look down upon others, for their religious beliefs, for their race, or for their station in life. Who was his neighbor? He that shewed mercy on him. I want to be a better neighbor.
